I feel fortunate to work with highly skilled colleagues committed to providing care for our patients, while maximizing their chances of a successful outcome and minimizing the risk of problems. It gives me great satisfaction to see our efforts result in better health for our patients, while also making tremendous improvements in lifestyle for them and their families. I strive to understand challenges from a patient’s perspective. This provides a basis for common understanding, allows for clear communication, and the creation of a treatment plan tailored to each patient. I sincerely believe health care is a partnership between doctor and patient.
I am trained in general laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, and have had extensive experience in bariatric, colorectal, gastrointestinal tract, and thoracic procedures. In addition to my interests around the medical and surgical management of weight, I have keen interest in the underlying metabolic and endocrine causes for obesity.
I joined Kaiser Permanente in June 1992.
I grew up in a farming community in central Pennsylvania and now live in San Ramon. I am an active wine collector and participate in a wine-importing project. I enjoy spending time with my three very active daughters who play lacrosse, soccer, baseball and swim. For relaxation, I enjoy traveling, gardening, photography, and reading non-fiction.
